No-exam life insurance

Who gets approved with no medical exam, how the process works, and what happens if you are not eligible.

Most carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: for eligible applicants, they use your application, prescription records, motor-vehicle history, and other data to decide—no paramedical exam needed. Some decisions return the same day. Every quote shown here tells you whether an exam is required, possibly required, or not required.

What it changes

No exam does not mean no underwriting. Your answers are verified against records, and policies issued based on false information can be challenged for two years. If the carrier's research uncovers questions, they may still request an exam; you can decide then whether to proceed.

Who tends to qualify

Usually applicants under 60, applying for moderate amounts, with clean health and no tobacco. If you have had a recent checkup with lab work, many carriers will accept those results instead of requiring a new exam.

If an exam is needed, a paramedic will visit you at home or work in the Pleasant Hill area for about 20 to 30 minutes, at no charge. Good results can improve your rate class, so an exam is not always bad news for healthy people.
